Semester by semester

This course introduces students to the principles of the science of Qirāʾāt (Qur’anic recitations): its definition, origin, and historical development; the meaning of the Seven Aḥruf (modes of revelation); the types of recitations; and the theoretical (dirāyah) issues connected with this science. It also introduces the Ten Reciters and their transmitters.

This course prepares the student to master the recitation of the Noble Qur’an in the manner received from the imams of recitation, going back to the Prophet ﷺ. It does so by introducing the science of Tajwīd and studying its rulings both theoretically and practically.
